About peshwari naan
Also called peshawari naan, peshwari nan and sweet naan.
Peshwari naan is the sweet naan of British Indian takeaways: naan dough rolled around a filling of desiccated coconut, raisins, ground almonds and sugar, baked and brushed with butter. Our takeaway version is the dough for a plain naan scaled to 150 g, with 20 g of coconut, 15 g of raisins, 10 g of almonds, 5 g of sugar and 8 g of butter on top.
Home vs restaurant
The takeaway row is the headline. The home row uses a smaller naan with less of everything; the last row is the takeaway naan without its butter brush, so the filling and the butter can be read apart.
| Version | Weight | Calories | Protein | Fat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UK takeaway styleHeadlineHeadline. 8 g of butter on top. | 208 g | 741 | 15.7 g | 29.8 g |
| Home peshwari naanA smaller naan, less filling and butter. | 155 g | 528 | 11.7 g | 18.3 g |
| Takeaway style, no butterThe same filling, no butter brush. | 200 g | 684 | 15.6 g | 23.3 g |
The sweet filling
Of the takeaway naan's 741 calories, the bread brings 58 percent, the filling 34 percent, 254 calories, and the butter 8 percent. Within the filling, the coconut is 52 percent, the almonds 23, the raisins 18 and the sugar 7. Desiccated coconut is the dense part: 65 percent fat by weight, 89 percent of that fat saturated, which is why 20 g of it carries 11.4 g of saturated fat.
The naan carries 7.5 g of added sugar, about 1.8 teaspoons, from the filling and the dough, and 21.1 g of sugars in all once the raisins and coconut are counted.
