Katori Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Katori ("Katori", "we", "us"). They govern your use of the Katori mobile app and website (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What Katori is
Katori is a nutrition-tracking app that uses AI to identify food from photos and estimate calories and macronutrients, with a focus on South Asian and Indian dishes. It is a consumer wellness and tracking tool. It is not a healthcare service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Katori. By using the Service you confirm you are 16 or older. The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly allow them to create accounts.
3. Not medical or nutritional advice
This section matters, please read it.
Katori provides estimates and general information for tracking purposes only. Katori is not a medical device, is not a substitute for professional medical, nutritional, or dietary advice, and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. Calorie and macronutrient figures are AI-generated estimates and may be inaccurate or incomplete.
Do not use Katori to make medical decisions. Always consult a qualified physician, registered dietitian, or other healthcare professional before changing your diet, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, have a medical condition (including diabetes or any eating disorder), or take medication. If you are struggling with disordered eating, please seek professional support; Katori is not designed for and should not be used as a tool to support harmful eating behavior.
You use any information from Katori at your own risk and are solely responsible for your dietary and health choices.
4. AI estimates and accuracy
Katori's food recognition and nutrition figures are produced by automated AI systems. While we work hard on accuracy, particularly for South Asian dishes, we do not guarantee that any identification, calorie count, macro figure, or other output is accurate, complete, or suitable for your purposes. Portions, ingredients, and preparation vary, and the AI can make mistakes. You can confirm or correct what the AI suggests, and you are responsible for reviewing entries before relying on them.
5. Your account
You are responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping access to your email secure (since login uses one-time codes sent to your email). Tell us promptly at infokatori1@gmail.com if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization. One person per account; do not share accounts.
6. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation
Katori offers a free tier and paid subscriptions (Pro and Pro Max), with monthly and yearly options and daily AI-scan limits that differ by tier.
- Billing through Apple. Paid subscriptions are sold and processed through your Apple App Store account via in-app purchase. We do not process payments ourselves and do not receive your card details.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Managing and canceling. You manage, change, or cancel your subscription in your Apple App Store account settings, not within Katori. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Prices. Prices are shown in the app and on our website in US dollars and are charged in your local currency as determined by Apple. We may change prices going forward; changes do not affect a period you have already paid for, and we will give notice of changes as required.
- Refunds. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple under Apple's policies. We generally cannot issue refunds directly.
- Free tier and limits. Free and paid tiers include daily limits on AI scans. We may adjust limits or features over time; we will not materially reduce a paid feature you are actively paying for without notice.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
- upload photos of other people without their consent, or any content you do not have the right to submit;
- attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or extract our data, models, or source, or build a competing product from the Service;
- abuse, overload, probe, or interfere with the Service or its security (including automated mass requests);
- resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our permission.
8. Intellectual property
We own the Service, including the Katori name, logo, brand, design, software, and our dish database, all protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose. You keep ownership of the data you create (your meal logs); you grant us the limited rights needed to operate and improve the Service as described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Katori will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or health outcomes, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty Canadian dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that estimates will be accurate.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Katori and delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, abuse the Service, or create risk or legal exposure for us or others. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; the sections that by their nature should survive (such as 3, 4, 8, 9, 10) survive.
12. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may update the Service and these Terms. If we make material changes to the Terms, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect and update the date above. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Manitoba and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be subject to the courts located in Manitoba, unless mandatory consumer-protection laws in your place of residence say otherwise.
